David Copeland has more than 40 years of experience, including most recently, over 30 years as in-house counsel for public and private oil and gas companies. David has extensive experience in corporate, securities, oil and gas, and commercial law practice areas, having provided legal and business advisory services to support merger and asset acquisition and disposition transactions, commercial contracting, governance, risk management, compliance, regulatory, employment, internal investigations, litigation management, and financial.
David is a supporter of Texas Tech Law School and its fundraising and scholarship efforts, including the First-Generation Scholarship for first-generation law students.
Before joining Wick Phillips, David was Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of SM Energy Company (NYSE:SM). Prior to SM, David was a founder and the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Concho Resources Inc., and previously the Vice President and Associate General Counsel of Parker & Parsley Petroleum Company, both in Midland, Texas.
