Ryan Jenlink helps clients use intellectual property to meet their objectives. While his focus is the preparation and prosecution of patent applications across diverse technologies, Ryan’s value lies in his ability to understand each client’s goals and to tailor strategies to achieve those goals. Ryan’s practice includes the analysis and management of patent portfolios, client counseling and opinion drafting, preparing and prosecuting patent applications across both domestic and foreign jurisdictions, negotiating and preparing intellectual property agreements, and representing clients in post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Ryan brings experience across a wide range of technology areas, including genetic engineering; gene therapeutics; pharmaceutical compounds, compositions, and methods; medical devices, such as surgical tools and implants; and medical treatment regimen. Ryan also has experience related to polymer compositions, polymerization methods, and polymerization equipment; catalyst chemistry; telecommunications; oilfield servicing operations including drilling, stimulation, production, and surface equipment.

Prior to joining Wick Phillips, Ryan dedicated more than 10 years to serving clients at intellectual property-focused law firms in the Dallas area. During this time, Ryan worked with inventors to develop application strategies, drafted and prosecuted patent applications related to mechanical, chemical, biological and electrical inventions, and developed strategies for filing and prosecuting patent applications throughout the world. Ryan also developed substantial expertise in design patents, establishing himself as the firm’s professional for advising on, preparing and prosecuting design applications.

During law school, Ryan worked for the University of Oklahoma’s Office of Technology Development where he evaluated invention disclosures for patentability, coordinated application filings and prosecution with outside counsel, and developed strategies for monetizing intellectual property assets by licensing university-owned technologies to start-up companies.

  • Developed strategies for protecting a family of implantable, mechanically-active, bioabsorbable medical devices and negotiated licenses to bring the first generation of bioabsorbable devices into public use.*
  • Represented a maker of vehicle tracking devices before the USPTO’s PTAB, successfully contesting the validity of all claims in a litigated patent.*
