Rusty O’Kane is an associate in the Litigation section of Wick Phillips, focusing on commercial business litigation and providing counsel to clients involved in a wide variety of civil disputes.

Prior to joining Wick Phillips, Rusty was a litigation associate in the Chicago office of Mayer Brown LLP, where he successfully handled all aspects of discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests, taking and defending depositions, implementing e-discovery, and managing teams of attorneys in the fact-development process. Before that position, he served as a litigation associate for a defense trial firm in Chicago, where he gained extensive litigation experience in federal and state court, including taking and defending depositions, briefing and arguing dispositive motions, and representing hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. He also helped successfully defend a doctor accused of negligence as second chair in a two week, multi-million dollar birth trauma trial.

Rusty previously served as a law clerk for the Honorable Lawrence M. Reifurth on the Intermediate Court of Appeals of Hawaii, and as a legal extern for the Honorable Joan H. Lefkow, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

He earned his law degree, cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago, where he served as a senior editor of the Journal of International Law and Business and participated on the National Trial Team, which won the CACJ National Championship. Rusty earned both a Master of Arts degree in legislative affairs and a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, in political science and history from George Washington University. He is a member of the Texas and Dallas Bar Associations.
